Refreshing. The fragrant and delicate aromas of peach blossom and ripe pear bring relief at the end of a hot day. The beautiful notes of tart green apple and light hints of minerality lead into mouthwatering flavors of citrus, apple and pear. A bright, crisp citrus acidity lingers and the heat of the day quickly dissipates. Pairs well with a spicy stir fry.
The 2017 vintage was a year of many challenges. We finally saw rain that helped replenish our reservoirs and recharge vineyard ground across Napa Valley. Early summer was warm, with several heat spikes. The wildfires in October came right as harvest was wrapping up for many in the valley, with an estimated 90% of the grapes already in. The 2017 harvest has tested every winemaker’s quick thinking, thanks to the ups and downs that Mother Nature has through their way.
Our Gewürztraminer is whole cluster pressed over a two hour time period and then chilled to 45° to settle in tank for 2 days. The juice fermentation begins naturally with native yeasts and slowly at a cool 50° for 2 – 3 weeks. Once the brix reaches 10°, the temperature is raised to complete fermentation. The wine is then racked clean into neutral French oak barrels where it settles for 2 - 3 months prior to bottling. This is a dry Gewürztraminer which accounts for 20% of the tonnage crushed in Napa County.
Beautiful floral notes sit on top of aromas of lemon zest, lemon pie, kumquat and citronella. Mouthwatering flavors of ripe melon, pear and citrus tease the palate and beg for another sip! The long, crisp finish pairs brilliantly with any warm weather bite.
