Vineyard Notes
Purchased in 1998, the Family Ranch is located in the Stags Leap District AVA of the Napa Valley. The climate is known for a longer growing season of warm days and cool nights—perfect for late-maturing varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon with a signature style from this region known for its distinctive combination of power and elegance. We have 17.58 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Cabernet Franc. Our production facility, barrel cave and visitor center are also located here. The 2011 vintage was a challenge for every northern California wine grape region. The cool spring weather hampered fruit set, when flowers turn to berries, in most vineyards, reducing the crop by about half compared to normal. Despite the low yields, the hot weather that typically presents during the growing season, never arrived. The effect on Cabernet Sauvignon was especially evident as this late-ripening varietal struggled to reach optimum sugar levels. While no one is calling it a great vintage, many however, believe great wines were made, just not enough of them. We were able to work closely with our vineyard manager to achieve the best balance possible with richness and structure very present from our 2011 Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon.
Production Notes
All of our fruit passes through a small de-stemmer and is never crushed. We then bleed about 10% of the juice to allow for an increased ratio of skin to juice which adds structure, mouthfeel and color to the final wine. After 3 days of cold soak, the juice is inoculated and ferments for approximately 14 days. The wine is then pressed into tank and allowed to settle for 24 hours. The wine is then racked clean into 100% French oak barrels where it passes through malolactic fermentation and then ages for 20 months prior to bottling. The Brenda’s Vineyard is a barrel selection which embodies the classic Stags Leap trademark of structured tannin balanced with deep, ripe fruit.
Winemaker Notes
The 2011Brenda’s Vineyard has aromas of honey and caramel, red and black plums, caramelized figs, cherries, graphite, sweet oak, fine tobacco and hints of white chocolate. A complex mix of sweet red fruit, dark chocolate, leather, plums, and chewy mouth-watering tannins explode on your palate surrounded by the velvety elegance of as Stags Leap District Cabernet.

Tasted at Baldacci Family Vineyards, nose with a touch of wood, fresh dark fruit, plum, cherry, more of the same on the palate, ashy, big body, touch subdued, needs 3 years to peak, intensely, concentrated fruit, almost elegant, long, long, flavorful finish.
