2014 Fraternity Red Wine Blend
September 20 - October 8, 2014
June 28, 2016
Bright red berry fruit on the entry with a nice mid-palate weight and spice followed by dark berry and cocoa powder on the finish.
The 2014 harvest was on the early side, this year. We had substantial rain in late February and early March which helped offset another dry winter. Starting with bud break through to veraison and finally ending with harvest, everything was ahead of schedule. Our Honey B Vineyard, in Carneros, had ideal temperatures through harvest which allowed for excellent ripening and a full spectrum of flavors.
All of our fruit passes through a small de-stemmer and is never crushed. We then bleed a percentage of the juice to allow for an increased ratio of skin to juice which adds structure, mouthfeel and color to the final wine. Our pump over fermentations are less aggressive to allow for a more gentle and supple final wine. Once fermentation is complete the wine is racked clean into oak barrels where it passes through a native inoculation of malolactic fermentation and then ages for 17 - 19 months prior to bottling.
Unmistakable. The second your nose hits the glass, you will recognize our interpretation of a beautiful Napa Valley blend. Making this wine always bring a smile to our faces, as it is the one and only blend that we produce. With four varietals from five different properties stretching from the southern region of Carneros, to the northern most region of Calistoga, this wine has a beautifully rich and supple mid-palate with a finish that makes you think, ‘this is a Baldacci wine.’ Drink this wine now: I promise you will enjoy it. But, if you do have the discipline to stare at it on your wine rack, it will be a joy to drink over the next 10 years. ~ Michael Baldacci
