We have worked with the Herrera family for over 12 years. Throughout this time, Rolando Herrera has brought to us various opportunities to source fruit from top wine growing regions. His Coombsville vineyard is just one source where we have found a quality and expression that upholds our style but which also offers another viewpoint on Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2013 vintage was largely uneventful with an early harvest marked by warm weather and no threat of rain. Quality across the board was outstanding. The white wines have trended towards bright acidity with vibrant flavors and balance. The Indian summer provided ideal weather to prolong harvest which allowed us to pick each block at peak flavor levels and phenolic maturity.
All of our fruit passes through a small de-stemmer and is never crushed. We then bleed about 10% of the juice to allow for an increased ratio of skin to juice which adds structure, mouthfeel and color to the final wine. After 3 days of cold soak, the juice is inoculated and ferments for approximately 14 days. The wine is then pressed into tank and allowed to settle for 24 hours. The wine is then racked clean into 100% French oak barrels where it passes through malolactic fermentation and then ages for 20 months prior to bottling.
Striking aromas of brown sugar, baking spice, vanilla extract, clay and blueberries drive to an expansive palate of dark chocolate and fudge notes wrapped around dark wild berries. Big, gripping tannins cross the mid-palate while lush, ripe fruit with a touch of sweetness complete the mouthwatering finish.

11/5/2016 At Baldacci this morning, big, intense, floral nose of blackberry, black pepper, black currants, and a dusty road on a hot day, typical 100% Coombsville fruit, shows medium, slow falling legs when swirled in the glass,same on the palate, big wine, amazingly it is fairly fruit forward and approachable on the palate and mid palate, almost elegant, will peak in 5 years and last 20 years, throws lots of sediment which I suggest you ignore, long, lovely finish.
